By STEPHEN MALLATRATT, SUSAN HILL
Our summer show is The Woman in Black, Stephen Mallatratt’s stage version of Susan Hill’s horror classic. It’s the story of Arthur Kipps, a British barrister who is haunted by his long-ago encounter with the woman in black and who is desperate to exorcise her malevolent spirit. Kipps hires an actor to help him tell his tale hoping that by sharing the whole story with his family and friends, he can rid himself of the shadow it has cast on his life. Kipps is played by Geoffrey Bennett, last summer’s Sweeney Todd. Roger Freeman, who last appeared in Four Old Broads, is The Actor. Set in an out-of-fashion theatre at a time when electric lighting and recorded sound were recent innovations, The Woman in Black is guaranteed to make you shiver. Jessica Hottman rounds out the cast of three being directed by Jackie Czerepinski.
